Evaluation
Originally, I was going to try and create a short animated scene with a story, however this was too time consuming so I changed my animation to different animation experiments. This allowed me to practice with frame by frame animation using different techniques without being constrained by a story. Furthermore, animations such as the blob and bouncing ball help to develop my skills and understanding of the 12 principles of animation while the octopus animation aided in character design skills and understanding how it takes a large number of frames to create a small sequence of animation.
The animation is a mixture of hand drawn, digital and Plasticine model animation as well as a few other random objects. The main purpose of these animated shorts was to develop skills in creating basic and fundamental animation.
Audience feedback
From the feedback I had received, It seemed that the blob animation, bouncing ball and octopus animation were fairly well received while the block cutting animation was considered the weakest. The viewers felt that the animation for that one could be made smoother. The bouncing ball was appealing to the audience due to the fact that it made the right use of the squash and stretch principles, as well as the timing of the frames that made the animation feel smooth and alive even though the duration of that animation is around 1 second.
Possible improvements based on feedback
I could improve on the sword animation by adding in more key frames and reorganizing the in-between frames to improve the timing and smoothness of the animation. In addition, this animation, along with the octopus animation would be the best to build a more complex story on which would address the issue of there not being a significant story.
