Contemporary animation
Television animation
Television animation is used to describe animation that is aired on TV and is often part of a large series rather then individual episodes or sequences. Examples of this are shows like "The Simpsons" or "Avatar: The last air bender" which generally make use of the fact that rather than having a relatively short but supposedly high quality animation, they generally have consistent quality and a longer plot that is spread throughout a number of episodes or simply feature each episode with a one off plot.
Film animation
Film animations are generally a lot more expensive and as such often have a higher standard of quality, although other factors such as plot and character development may be rushed or underdeveloped due to the time constraints. Examples of film animations include Disney's films like "Finding Nemo" and Studio Ghibli's films such as "Princess Mononoke".
Advert animation
Animation is often used in advertising to either due to the aesthetics of animation or to appeal to a younger audience. These advert animations generally have a relatively high quality due to the fact that they are often very short, as well as having access to a generous budget.
